During 2011/12 the UK Teratology Information Service received 3,260 pregnancy-related telephone enquiries.

GPs (31%) and hospital pharmacists (31%) were our most frequent callers, followed by consultants (16%),community pharmacists (9%), nurses (3%) and midwives (2%).

UKTIS received over 60,000 requests for information regarding drug and chemical exposures in pregnancy during 2011/12. The majority of these were in the form of pregnancy summaries which were either downloaded from www.TOXBASE.org or www.UKTIS.org. To date, UKTIS have produced approximately 500 pregnancy monographs, 340 of which are available through TOXBASE®.

In 2011/12 five out of the top 10 most frequent enquiries to the service were regarding antidepressant medications with the most
frequent being the SSRIs – citalopram and sertraline. The prevalence of antidepressant related enquiries reflects both their high level
of use and recent publications concerning their safety during pregnancy.
