Access to data is tightly controlled. UKTIS data collection and processing is covered by Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006 (originally enacted under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2001) which means that patient consent is not required. However, health professionals are asked, where possible, to ensure that the women involved are aware that their personal information is being reviewed and that they are happy for it to be used in this way.
